Azerbaijan has entered the top three countries popular for sightseeing tourism.

Analytical agency TurStat has announced the results of the National Geographic Traveler Awards 2018.

The voting for the best travel destinations was held on the National Geographic Russia website, Azertag reported.

According to TurStat, 25 percent of the votes were cast for the Czech Republic, 22 percent for France, 20 percent for Azerbaijan, 18 percent for Britain and 15 percent for Portugal.

Azerbaijan also hits the top three countries for gastronomic tourism among Russians, along with Italy and Uzbekistan, as a result of voting.

Earlier, the Pomegranate Festival in Azerbaijan entered the top three enogastronomic events of the CIS countries, popular among Russian tourists in October 2018.

Pomegranate holiday is traditionally held every year in Goychay region since 2006. All 55 species of Azerbaijani pomegranate found grow in Goychay.

The Annual Pomegranate Festival, one of Azerbaijan’s most loved and colorful festivals, was held in Krasnoyarsk, Russia last year. The event featured exhibition, displaying folk crafts, vivid national dresses etc. The originality and taste of Azerbaijani cuisine has attracted a lot of guests.
