Azerbaijani weightlifter wins European crown

The European Weightlifting Championships is running in the Georgian capital city Tbilisi.
Some 262 athletes from 38 countries are competing at the event, which will last until April 18
A total of 15 European titles are set to be won at the Championship, with seven gold medals on offer in the women’s events, while eight will be decided in the men’s divisions.
The eight-day competition is taking place in the 9,200-capacity Sports Palace, located in the city center.
On the second day of the competition – April 12, Azerbaijani weightlifter showed his strength, bringing home the gold medal.
Competing in the weight category up to 62 kg Valentin Hristov
took the first place, lifting 295 kg (135 + 160) for two exercises.
He confidently beat his rivals from Turkey and Romania, who also
mounted the podium.
This is the second European title Valentin has won since he entered
the adult category. He won the European Championship in 2012. He is
also a bronze medalist of the 2012 Olympics in London and 2011
World Champion.
Azerbaijan`s women sportsmen Boyanka Kostova in the 58kg weight category will compete at the championship on April 13.
