Azerbaijani karate fighter claims gold at EUG 2024
Azerbaijani karate fighter Farid Savadov (60kg) has claimed a gold medal at the European Universities Games in Miskolc, Hungary, Azernews reports.
A team of male karate fighters comprised of Farid Savadov, Ramil Bakhshaliyev, Nijat Karimli, Vahid Hasanov and Osman Osmanli finished the competition in second place.
At the same time, the female team, including Aysu Aliyeva, Renata Arabli, Suada Karimova, and Fatima Jabrayilova, secured bronze medal for Azerbaijan.
The European Universities Games (EUG) is an international multi-sport event, organized every two years for university athletes by the European University Sports Association (EUSA). The first edition was held in 2012 in Cordoba, Spain.
The Hungarian cities of Debrecen and Miskolc are hosting the 6th edition of European Universities Games.
This is the biggest University sport event organized in Hungary after the 1965 Summer Universiade.
Over 4500 athletes are competing in 17 different sports at EUG 2024.
The European Universities Games will last until July 24.
