Azerbaijan Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov has been unanimously elected as a vice-chairman of the International Convention against Doping in Sport on the sidelines of the Conference of Parties (COP) to the International Convention against Doping in Sport, Azernews reports.

The member states and the organization hailed Azerbaijan's contributions in sport, including the hosting of the 7th International Conference of Ministers and Senior Officials Responsible for Physical Education and Sport.

MINEPS is the only global platform of its kind, engaging governments, intergovernmental organizations, the sport movement, academia, and specialized NGOs.

The prestigious sporting event brought together over 50 ministers and high-ranking officials, more than 540 delegates from 124 countries and international organizations.

The decision to hold such a large-scale conference is a clear manifestation of the international community's trust in Azerbaijan, a country well-known for its countless sports achievements.

The conference participants also highly appreciated Azerbaijan's active participation in a number of UNESCO projects and its contribution to the organization in general.

Note that the Conference of Parties (COP) to the International Convention against Doping in Sport took place at UNESCO Headquarters, in Paris.

The core agenda focused on the delivery of outcomes and proposals requested by COP8, such as the refinement and improvement of the Convention's monitoring system and the support provided to States Parties to enable them to take full ownership of the Convention's provisions.

COP9 also provides the opportunity to examine potential developments of the Convention in order to increase its capacity to respond to emergent challenges.
