World chess stars to compete in Azerbaijan again

"Shamkir Chess" super tournament, dedicated to the memory of Azerbaijani chess player Vugar Hashimov, will start in Shamkir, Report informs.
The best grandmasters of the planet will be engaged in this tournament of XXII category. The list includes world champion Magnus Carlsen (Norway, 2845), Ding Liren (China, 2812), Anish Giri (Holland, 2797), former world champion Viswanathan Anand (India, 2779), Alexander Grischuk (Russia, 2771), World Cup winner Sergey Karjakin (Russia, 2753), former FIDE world champion Veselin Topalov (Bulgaria, 2740), David Navara (Czech Republic, 2739), as well as local grandmasters Shahriyar Mammadyarov (2790) and Teymur Rajabov (2756).
The opening of the tournament, organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Azerbaijan, SOCAR and the National Federation, will be held on March 30 at the Heydar Aliyev Center in Shamkir. The tournament will end on April 9th.
Recall that Magnus Carlsen (three times) and Shahriyar Mammadyarov (twice) became the winners of previous draws of the tournament.
The “Shamkir Chess” super-tournament, dedicated to the memory of Azerbaijani chess player Vugar Hashimov, will be held with the support of SOCAR, the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Azerbaijan and the Azerbaijan Chess Federation, with the partnership of Synergy Group.
It should be noted that last significant chess tournaments which took place in Azerbaijan were Azerbaijan Women's Chess Championship and Azerbaijan Man’s Chess Championship.
The winner of Azerbaijan Women's Chess Championship became Gunay Mammadzade. In Man’s Chess Championship first place was taken by Muhammad Muradli.
