Azerbaijan wrestling team name squad for European Championships
The Azerbaijan national freestyle wrestling team have named a squad for the European Championships to be held in Novi Sad, Serbia from May 2-7.
The team includes Giorgi Edisherashvili (57kg), Ahmadnabi Gvarzatilov (61kg), Gitinomagomed Hajiyev (65kg), Ruslan Dibirhajiyev (70kg), Murad Suleymanov (74kg), Alexander Gostiyev (86kg), Aslanbek Alborov (97kg) and Jamaladdin Mahammadov (125kg), Azertac reported.
Wrestling remains the most popular sport in the county and is overseen by the National Wrestling Federation, which was established in 1993.
The Rio Games opened a new page in wrestling for Azerbaijan. The country became one of only two nations ever to increase the number of medals achieved in five consecutive Games.
