The president stated that criminals that committed certain offences in the Aktobe city located in the Western part of Kazakhstan were receiving instructions from abroad. “In accordance with the information that we possess, the terror act was organized by the adherents of the radical pseudo religious sects which were taking instructions from abroad.”
Nazarbayev has urged the citizens to suppress any calls on the commitment of coercive and illegal actions. “The citizens understandingly accepted the counter-terrorism measures taken by the law enforcement bodies in all regions of the country. Currently there is no reason for concern. However, I’m urging the citizens to be vigilant, and decidedly suppress all calls for illegal actions as well as render assistance to low enforcement bodies of the country,” he said.
The president underlined that problems like terrorism and extremism pose a threat not only to the security of the country but also to the entire world.
Groups of gunmen attacked two arms shops and milirary base in the northwestern Kazakh city of Aktobe on June 5, 2016. A total of 13 criminals were killed in an anti-terrorist operation.
Following violent attacks in Aktobe, the local authorities have announced a “yellow” alert for at least 40 days which indicates a raised level of threat countrywide, apart from Aktobe where the threat level is “red” and where Special Forces continue counter-terrorism operations. The authorities of the country are advising increased vigilance, particularly in public places and on public transport.
