Terror plot foiled in south-western Iran
A terror plot was foiled in Iran’s south-western province of Khuzestan, Iranian state-run IRINN TV reported March 7 citing an intelligence source.
The source said that a terrorist group was eliminated following one-month of “complicated intelligence measures.”
The group’s members were killed in a skirmish in the Khuzestan province last night, according to the report.
The information released by Iranian officials suggests that Iran has in recent months neutralized several terror attacks, planed by extremist groups.
Iran’s Deputy Interior Minister for Security Affairs Hossein Zolfaqari said last month that a terrorist plot in border town of Sumar in western Iran was revealed and neutralized.
Intelligence Minister Mahmoud Alavi also said Feb. 28 that two terror attacks were foiled during the elections held on Feb. 26.
He said the terror teams were linked with “Takfiri terrorists” and had plans to commit terror attacks during the elections.
Iranian officials refer to the extremist Sunni armed groups, in particular in Syria and Iraq, as Takfiri.
