Uzbekistan applies automated electricity metering system
Uzbekenergo JSC, the national energy operator of Uzbekistan, started implementing a project co-financed by Asian Development Bank (ADB) to introduce an automated electricity control and metering system in the country’s regions.
The ADB board of directors approved allocation of a $300 million loan to the Uzbek government for implementation of this project in Nov. 2015.
The $491 million project is meant for the purchase and installation of 3.1 million electricity metering devices in 0.4 kilovolt networks in five regions of the country - Andijan, Ferghana, Kashkadarya, Namangan and Surkhandarya.
The ADB loan will also be spent for training of Uzbekenergo’s staff and campaigns to raise public awareness about energy efficiency.
The project’s implementation period is 2016-2019.
In addition to the ADB loan, the project is funded by the government of Uzbekistan.
