Georgian official says ruling coalition to face post-election collapse

Georgia’s deputy prime minister and energy minister Kakha Kaladze voiced belief that the ruling Georgian Dream-Democratic Georgia coalition would collapse after this year’s legislative election, the Sputnik International news agency reported.

“Sooner or later it will happen and the coalition will fall apart,” he said on February 22. “This is nothing tragic, but I don’t envision this risk in the nearest future and think that the coalition will appear in the election under the current composition.”

The coalition, which came into power in 2012, has been actively rumored to split up in Georgian media after news emerged of infighting among local parties.

The next Georgian parliamentary election is scheduled to be held in the fall of 2016.
