Talks on Turkish Stream suspended

The Turkish Stream gas pipeline construction project has been suspended, Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak told TASS.

"The negotiations have been suspended," Novak said.

The Russian government decided to suspend the activity of the Russian-Turkish intergovernmental commission for trade and economic cooperation from December 1. Novak heads the commission from the Russian side.

The intergovernmental agreement on the Turkish Stream was prepared as part of the Russian-Turkish intergovernmental commission. It was expected that the intergovernmental agreement can be signed in December-January.

The agreement on the Turkish Stream gas pipeline construction was achieved in December 2014.

It was announced that the negotiations on signing an intergovernmental agreement are postponed due to the political situation in Turkey.

Turkey-Russia relations deteriorated after the Turkish Air Force shot down the Russian Su-24 warplane Nov. 24.
