CIS countries keen on expanding cooperation

CIS countries are determined to expand cooperation in different fields.

Issues such as mutual cooperation in the fight against international terrorism as well as military and economy cooperation were discussed during meetings between representatives of the CIS countries on May 26-29.

The issues of fight against terrorism and extremism were discussed between CIS heads of security agencies and special services during a meeting on May 26 in Tajikistan. The sides expressed the need to take measures to combat contemporary threats, according to News Kazakhstan.

The initial themes of the meeting were joint measures of information security, prevention of terrorism and extremism, radical nationalism as well as prevention of mass disorders. The sides also discussed the potential threat posed by terrorist group "ISIL".

Touching upon external threats, participants took note of the program on cooperation in the fight against terrorism and extremism until 2016, the Federal Security Service told RIA Novosti.

ISIL became one of the world main threats in 2014 when the so-called Caliphate was violently carved out of Syria and Iraq. As a result of such violence thousands of civilians were killed, hundreds of thousands were made refugees and several thousand were held hostage by the ISIL.

The CIS countries general staffs developed the concept of national armed forces development until 2020, which acceptance could be finalized in the autumn of this year, said Chief of the Russian Armed Forces General Staff, Valery Gerasimov, following the meeting on May, 27 according to Trend.

Gerasimov also highlighted the importance of the CIS armed forces participation in field, air and naval trainings - which will be held not only in Russia but also in other CIS countries.

"We examined the basic concept of creating a single communication system for CIS countries as well as the issues of informing on changes of radiation, chemical and biological environment, engineering humanitarian demining and other issues," said Gerasimov.

Following the meeting, Gerasimov emphasized the expanding cooperation in military sphere between all CIS countries, stressing on the mutual cooperation transfer into practical level of military-professional skill enhancement. Along with Russia, the Defense Ministry delegations of Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Armenia attended the event.

Meanwhile, mutual cooperation in the field of economy between CIS countries were discussed during the Council meeting held on May, 29 in Kazakhstan. The meeting was attended by CIS countries’ heads of governments. As a result the sides signed a joint action plan in light of pressing issues in the financial and economic spheres as well as strategy of maintenance international transport safety, RIA Novosti reported.

The documents include the progress of the Interstate program of CIS countries innovation cooperation realized in 2014 in the period up to 2020. Moreover, it examines the concept of inter-regional and cross-border cooperation of the CIS countries up to 2020 and plan for its implementation.

Also, the documents concern the main directions of the joint monitoring development and evaluation of radiation, chemical and biological conditions of the CIS countries defense ministries up to 2020.

According to the document all CIS countries heads of government will hold their next meeting on October, 30 in Dushanbe.
