Uzbekistan forms IT Ministry
Uzbek President Islam Karimov has signed a decree on
"Establishment of the ministry of development of information
technologies and communications".
According to the decree the ministry is being established on the
basis of the State Committee of Communication, Informatization and
Telecommunication Technologies.
Ensuring the implementation of a unified state policy in the field
of information technologies and communications, creating the
"e-government" - are among the main tasks and directions of the new
ministry’s activity.
Working out and implementing the comprehensive programs for the
implementation and development of a national information and
communication system are also among these tasks.
The ministry will be charged with further development and
modernization of the telecommunication infrastructure.
The ministry will implement the state programs for the creation of
the "e-government", interministerial coordination, monitoring,
evaluation and control of the activity of the ministries,
departments, companies and associations, on the scene public
authorities charged with informatization and improvement of
interactive state services.
The ministry will also create a unified system of formation,
storage and use of state information resources and databases.
The ministry was also tasked to further develop the national
segment of the Internet.
It will also coordinate and assist the development of domestic
production and domestic market of competitive software and
services, and the introduction of modern software, information
systems and information resources.
The ministry was entrusted to implement measures to ensure
information security, and organize researches and developments, and
will also execute the functions of government regulation, licensing
and control of the activities in telecommunications area and in the
use of the radio spectrum.
It will also carry out international cooperation in the field of
communications and information technologies.
The State Committee for Communication, Informatization and
Telecommunication Technologies was established by a presidential
decree in October 2012, replacing the Uzbek Agency for
Communication and Informatization.
