PM says Georgia will restore its territorial integrity

By Mushvig Mehdiyev

Georgia's new government will overcome the challenges facing the country and achieve the restoration of its territorial integrity, Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said on October 27.

Garibashvili blamed former president Mikheil Saakashvili for the loss of the country's territories.

The prime minister further urged the Abkhazians and Ossetians to join for unified Georgian state. "Your dreams about independence are not real. Georgians will never tolerate the loss of the lands that our ancestors preserved for us," Garibashvili said.

Large scale military action was launched between Georgia and Russia in South Ossetia on August 8, 2008. Russian troops occupied Tskhinvali and expelled the Georgian military. The northern giant recognized the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia in late August. In response, Tbilisi cut diplomatic ties with Moscow and called the two unrecognized republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia occupied territories.
