Georgia joins South-East Europe defense ministerial
The Georgian Defense Ministry has joined the South-Eastern Europe defense ministerial (SEDM) hosted by Montenegro.
Georgia was represented at the meeting by Deputy Defense Minister Mikhail Darchiashvili, the ministry reported on October 17.
Addressing the ministerial, Darchiashvili stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between the south-eastern European countries to overcome the existing security challenges.
He said the full entry of Georgia into SEDM would help to strengthen stability and security in the south-eastern part of Europe.
The Georgian side is involved in the format of the defense ministerial of South-Eastern Europe as an observer since 2006.
During the visit, Darchiashvili also held bilateral meetings with representatives of the defense ministries of several countries.
The main topic of discussions was the existing regional security challenges and results of the recent NATO summit. The parties discussed in details the elements envisaged by the NATO-Georgian package.
Darchiashvili asked the senior officials of the defense ministries of the NATO to get maximally involved in the process of implementation of the package. The parties also agreed to cooperate.
