EU promises Georgia full support

By Mushvig Mehdiyev

European Commissioner Stefan Fule said Georgia will have all support in the process of Eurointegration.

He added that there are some issues, which Georgian authorities need to attach more attention.

"The authorities have to get closer to the EU and make use of the opportunities we offered them," Fule said. "We have signed a more ambitious agreement with Georgia that means a lot to its economy and citizens. That document creates a solid base for the strengthening of democracy, the rule of law and independence of the court. We support Georgia in these efforts."

He said the EU would do all to prevent any pressure on any country by another one and prove that all countries are free to define their own course of action in Europe.

The EU-Georgia relations date back to 1992, after Georgia declared its sovereignty from the decadent Soviet Union. Mutual ties have climaxed since 2003, as consecutive governments in Georgia undertook various ambitious programs for political and economic reforms.

The EU and Georgia signed an Association Agreement In June 2014, which specified creating a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area between the two sides. Georgia cements its political and economic ties with the EU within the framework of the Eastern Partnership program.
