By Sara Rajabova
Despite the international sanctions, Iran continues to enforce its armed forces with new homemade military equipment.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) Ground Force is finalizing manufacture of a new homemade drone armed with the RPG (rocket-propelled grenade).
Commander of the IRGC Ground Forces Brigadier General Mohammad Pakpour said the combat drone will carry the RPG with no Backblast, Fars news agency reported on October 1.
Pakpour also noted that the drone has passed the tests and its manufacture will be completed in the near future.
Iran unveiled its first homemade fighter drone that carries air-to-air missiles on September 23. Reportedly, the drone is capable of destroying all types of aircrafts including fighters, small Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and helicopters.
In recent years, Iran has taken great strides in defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems. Iran has so far unveiled various domestically produced drones, including Ababil, Fotros, Hazem, Karrar (long range attack drone), Mohajer, Sarir, Shahed 129, Yasir and Zohal.
Iran has also conducted several military drills to enhance the defense capabilities of its armed forces and to test modern military tactics and equipment.
Since 1992, Iran has manufactured its own tanks, armored personnel carriers, missiles, radars, boats, submarines and fighter planes. Tehran has frequently announced that its military might poses no threat to other countries, stating that its defense doctrine is based on deterrence.
