Iranian military official has said the compulsory military service in the country to increase by 3 months to 24 months from next Iranian year (March 21, 2015).

Chief conscription officer of the Iranian armed forces, Brigadier General Moussa Kamali also added that in the case of being married, the term will be cut down by three months, Iran 's Mehr news agency reported.

He went on to add that the mandatory military service of the married soldiers also is to be reduced by three months for each child. Kamali said the decision was made in line with the country's policy to encourage population growth.

He also noted that the military service will be cut by three months in operational areas and by two months in underprivileged areas.

In Iran, military service is mandatory for all males at the age of 18, however those who attend college immediately after high school can postpone military service.

Men who do not serve in the military or have not been exempted are ineligible for government jobs and typically are not hired for high-paying jobs. They also cannot apply for a passport.

In recent years, Iran has taken great strides in military sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems.

Iranian Army has also conducted several military drills to enhance the defense capabilities and to test modern military tactics and equipment.

Since 1992, Iran has manufactured its own tanks, armored personnel carriers, missiles, radars, boats, submarines and fighter planes. Tehran has frequently announced that its military might poses no threat to other countries, stating that its defense doctrine is based on deterrence.
