U.S. assists Tajikistan in ensuring border security, law enforcement

The U.S. provided over $3.2 million to Tajikistan, supporting the programs related to border security, law enforcement, anti-drug activities, human trafficking, and justice sector development in the country, the U.S. Embassy in Dushanbe reported on September 30.

An agreement on Narcotics Control and Law Enforcement was signed by U.S. Ambassador to Tajikistan Susan Elliott and First Deputy Foreign Minister Ozoda Rahmon on September 28.

This U.S. government assistance will develop the capacities of Tajikistan's law enforcement and security agencies in the fight against illegal drug flows and will support Tajikistan's police reform efforts through community help and training for law enforcement, according to the report.

The U.S. government is committed to continue collaboration with the government of Tajikistan to ensure safety and security for all citizens, the report said.
