By Jamila Babayeva
Georgian Defense Ministry welcomed the statement of President of the U.S. Barack Obama on sustaining U.S. military presence in Afghanistan beyond 2014.
"President Obama's announcement once again emphasizes the U.S. commitment to enhance democratic development in Afghanistan and ensure security, sovereignty and stability of the country," the ministry's statement reads.
The ministry expressed the country's readiness to continue supporting the Allied efforts in maintaining security and stability of Afghanistan.
"We are proud that Georgia contributes to the process of democratic development in Afghanistan, an example of which was the first round of presidential and provincial council elections conducted on 5 April 2014," the statement further reads. "Georgian troops will continue to participate in ISAF with current level of contribution until the end of 2014. Georgia remains committed to continue its significant contribution to global peace and security with Allied forces beyond 2014."
Georgia has been assisting the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan since 2004.
