Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan mull cooperation

The presidents of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan discussed the ways to strengthen the bilateral relations, including trade-economic, investment, water-energy and cultural-humanitarian cooperation.
Nursultan Nazarbayev and Almazbek Atambayev met in Almaty on March 26 to mull the major directions of the joint Kazakh-Kyrgyz investment fund's activities, the Kazakh president's official website reported.
The two presidents scrutinized the interaction within the integration unions functioning in the Eurasian area.
Nazarbayev mentioned the importance of such negotiations, which further affect the economic development of the two countries.
"The current bilateral trade turnover has exceeded $1 billion with an increase of 41 percent compared to 2011. In the years of independence, Kazakhstan invested over $1 billion in the Kyrgyz economy," he noted.
Atambayev in turn said Kazakhstan is the leading country in Central Asia not only for maintaining peace and security in the region, but also for its social and economic indicators.
The two heads of state also exchanged views on topical issues on the international agenda, including regional security.
