Black sea cyclone to deteriorate weather in Georgia

Sharp deterioration of weather conditions is predicted in Georgia since September 4 because of the cyclone, which is coming from the Black Sea, the joint statement by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection and the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia reads.

"Since the second half of the day cyclones and relatively cold and moist air masses associated with them have begun to move from the Baltic Sea to Georgia," the statement reports.

According to weather forecasters, heavy rains and winds are expected.

The cyclone will cause strong winds in the western direction, the sharp decrease in temperature, very strong rains in western Georgia, sometimes hail and heavy seas, as well as significant increase in the water level in some rivers.

Unfavorable weather conditions will continue in Georgia till late evening of September 5.

Minister of the Environment and Natural Resources Protection Khatuna Gogaladze called on the population to take all necessary security measures in connection with the impending cyclone.

"Visits to the bank of the river should be limited and cars should be parked in safe places," Gogaladze said.

He said this is preventive methods to prevent damage of the property, and even more human victims.

The Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure has called on local authorities to take steps of safety and to mobilize resources. If necessary, ministries may work in the emergency mode.
