Military and technical cooperation between Russia and Armenia has reached a new level, Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolay Patrushev said in Yerevan on June 25, News-Armenia reported.

"Russia and Armenia have a strategic relationship, and this is the highest level of relations," Patrushev said after signing a number of bilateral documents.

"We have set ourselves the task that those agencies that provide security in a particular direction should cooperate actively and effectively, and for this we must have an appropriate regulatory framework. Actually, we are doing this in particular. I think that all of this confirms our desire to make cooperation more effective," he added.

Patrushev also said that the Armenian and Russian agencies operating in the field of security are working on a planned basis and the current plan comes to an end in 2013.

"In this regard, the preparation of the plan for the next period of 2014-2015 years on the issues interesting to both sides have already been assigned," Patrushev said.

Secretary of National Security Council Arthur Baghdasaryan thanked his Russian counterpart for his support.

"We have set out a very interesting field of our cooperation, and actually achieved concrete results. Today I signed five different agreements, contracts, and I think it gives us a good, solid legal basis for further cooperation," he said.

A number of bilateral documents were signed during Patrushev's visit to Armenia. In particular, Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan signed with the Director of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation of Russia Alexander Fomin a Treaty on the development of military-technical cooperation.
