Ashgabat will host an international conference on 'Sharing the best practices between Eastern and Western Europe and Central Asia for the development and implementation of the National Action Plan to Combat Human Trafficking' on April 29-30, the Turkmen government said on Monday.

The event will be organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan jointly with local representation of the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

The relevant decree for the development of foreign policy cooperation between Turkmenistan and international organizations was signed by President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov.

Turkmenistan has joined a number of basic UN conventions regulating the issues of peace and security, human rights and freedoms and has adhered to its commitments.

The relevant law 'On combating trafficking in human beings' was passed in the country in December 2007.

Human trafficking is a crime of global proportions and affects almost all countries in every region of the world.

Women make up a significant portion of the victims of human trafficking in Central Asia and Europe, according to the UN report on human trafficking in 2012.
