Mineral and fresh water prices to increase in Georgia
A move to increase mineral and fresh water prices was decided
upon by the Commission of Natural Resources of Georgia on
Friday.
According to the decision, the price on mineral water would be
increased by three times, and the price on fresh water - by two
times.
The price for fresh water are to be 8 GEL instead of 4 (1 USD =
1,66 GEL), and mineral water costs 9 GEL instead of 3 GEL, the
Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Georgi
Kvirikashvili, said.
"We think that mineral water should cost more than fresh water.
Regarding prices on brands, in case of Borjomi, it is to cost 30
GEL instead of 10 GEL; Nabeglavi is now to cost18 GEL instead of 6
GEL, Sairme will also be worth 18 GEL instead of 6 GEL, and Utsera
is to be 12 GEL instead of 4 GEL," Kvirikashvili said.
The minister believes that companies are not to incur extra losses,
as they have a rather big resource of cost optimization.
He hopes that the producers will not raise consumer prices for
mineral water after the increase in taxes.
