Iran to attend security conference in Munich

Iran will participate in the 49th Munich Security Conference, which will be held on February 1-3, Trend news agency reported referring to the Press TV.

Iran will be represented at the conference by Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi.

"The Munich Security Conference is held annually and the Islamic Republic of Iran will participate in the conference this year," Salehi told reporters on Friday.

The Euro crisis and future of the EU, future for the Euro-Atlantic security community, security and stability in Southeastern Europe and the Caucasus are the main subjects of the conference.

The ongoing crises in Mali, Egypt and Syria, as well as the issue of Iran will also be in the focus of discussions during the conference.

The West, led by the United States, has imposed sanctions against Iran, accusing Tehran of pursuing military objectives in its nuclear energy program.

Iran has repeatedly dismissed the Western allegations, arguing that as a signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and member of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), it has every right to pursue nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
