Memo on CSTO academy creation signed in Yerevan

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed in Yerevan between the CSTO secretariat and the Armenian National Security Council on the establishment of a CSTO Academy, Trend news agency reported on Tuesday referring to the news.am website.

The document was signed by Secretary of the Armenian National Secretary Council Arthur Baghdasaryan and CSTO Secretary General Nikolai Bordyuzha.

The Academy will start working in a few months, Baghdasaryan said at a briefing after the signing ceremony.

"This will be an analytical center," he added.

Bordyuzha said that the Academy is designed to train professionals not only from CSTO counties, but also from elsewhere. This will be a major regional center. Politicians will be trained there. The recommendations will be worked out to resolve the issues of security.

The CSTO was established on the basis of the Collective Security Treaty signed on May 15, 1992 by CIS member states. After Uzbekistan's withdrawal, six member states remained in the organisation: Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
