Russia says U.S. recognition Of Syrian opposition contradicts deal

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said U.S. recognition
of Syria's opposition contradicts an earlier agreement to seek
political transition in the Arab country, Radio Liberty
reported.
Lavrov said he was "surprised" by Washington's decision to
designate the newly formed opposition coalition as the legitimate
representative of the Syrian people.
At a Moscow news conference on December 12, Lavrov said the move
suggested the United States has "placed all bets on the armed
victory" by the coalition over the government of President Bashar
al-Assad.
U.S. President Barack Obama announced his decision on December 11
in an interview with the U.S. station ABC News. He said Syria's
National Coalition is "inclusive enough" and deserves international
legitimacy.
Washington and its allies were expected to discuss further boosting
support for the Syrian opposition at an international meeting in
Morocco on December 12.
