PM: Turkey to start production of attack helicopters in 2013
Turkey will start batch production of attack helicopters as part of the country's program on domestic production of military equipment from 2013, TRT Haber TV channel quoted Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan as saying on Tuesday.
According to Erdogan, Turkey began manufacturing warships within this program and it also intends to manufacture the country's all navy ships through the private sector.
"Today, Turkey meets 54 percent of the needs of the country's defense system. Our goal is fully provision with defense products through domestic production," Erdogan said.
He stressed that Turkey's defense industry export has quadrupled in recent years. Turkey exports armored vehicles, air defense systems, missile systems, warships and helicopters.
