Ukraine's President to meet with Putin in Moscow
Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych is due for talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on October 22, Radio Liberty reported.
The Kremlin press service said the meeting was expected to focus on the development of ties in spheres including energy, transport, space, and peaceful uses of nuclear energy.
One irritant in Ukrainian-Russian ties remains a dispute over gas, including the amount Ukraine pays for Russian imports.
Kyiv has been seeking to renegotiate a 2009 agreement that it claims set exorbitant prices.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Nikolai Azarov said earlier this month that the price for Russian gas could be significantly reduced, by around 60 percent, if Ukraine joined the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Custom Union with Russia, Kazakhstan, and Belarus.
Ukraine is currently paying some $420 per 1,000 cubic meters of gas.
