Russian general killed in Syria - reports
Free Syrian Army has announced about the murder of Russian general Vladimir Kodjayev, who worked as adviser to the defense minister in Syria, Al Arabiya TV channel reported on Wednesday.
His personal translator, Ahmed Aig, was also reportedly murdered. Free Syrian Army said important documents and maps of the Syrian army were found as a result of a special operation, during which Kodjayev was killed.
Anti-government protests have been ongoing in Syria for about 17 months. According to the UN, the total number of victims of the conflict has exceeded 17,000 people. About 230,000 people have become refugees and about 3 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance. Syrian authorities say that they are fighting the well-armed militants.
