Russian foreign minister in Tehran after talks with US
Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov arrived in Tehran on Tuesday for discussions with his Iranian counterpart a few days after Moscow and Washington held talks in Saudi Arabia, Azernews reports via IRNA.
During his one-day trip, Lavrov is set to meet with his Iranian counterpart to discuss regional and bilateral issues, according to state media.
His visit also follows a new wave of US sanctions targeting Iran’s oil industry, the country’s primary source of revenue.
Earlier this month, Trump reinstated his "maximum pressure" campaign, aiming to reduce Iran’s oil exports to zero—reviving Washington’s hardline approach from his first term.
