Tajikistan and the Maldives Sign Agreement to Abolish Visa Requirements, Azernews reports.

Tajikistan and the Maldives have signed an intergovernmental agreement that eliminates the visa requirement between the two countries. The documents were signed by Jonibek Hikmat, the Permanent Representative of Tajikistan to the UN, and Ali Nasir Mohamed, the Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the UN.

Under the terms of the agreement, citizens of both countries will be exempt from visa requirements for entry, exit, transit, and temporary stay in each other’s territory. However, the length of stay in either country should not exceed 30 days.

The agreement, which is set to last indefinitely, will come into effect 30 days after the parties receive the final written notification, via diplomatic channels, confirming the completion of the necessary internal procedures in both countries.

This move is expected to strengthen bilateral ties and facilitate travel and tourism between Tajikistan and the Maldives, two countries that have been increasingly focusing on improving diplomatic and economic relations. The Maldives, known for its tourism industry, will benefit from greater connectivity with Central Asia, while Tajikistan stands to gain from increased tourism and potential trade opportunities.

The visa exemption agreement comes at a time when many countries are revisiting their visa policies to promote easier travel and strengthen international cooperation.
