By Alimat Aliyeva
The leadership of the Formula 1 World Championship has reached a preliminary agreement with General Motors to include a new team in the competition starting in 2026, Azernews reports.
The team will be called Cadillac and will become the 11th team in the championship.
"General Motors is a huge global brand and a powerful leader in the world of equipment manufacturers. I support the efforts being made by the FIA, Formula 1, and General Motors to engage in dialogue about promoting and including this team on the starting grid for the 2026 World Championship. All parties, including the FIA, will continue to work together to ensure the success of this process," said FIA President Mohammed bin Sulayem.
It is worth noting that the last time the number of Formula 1 teams changed was in 2016, when the American Haas team became the 10th participant in the championship. The Italian Ferrari team holds the record for the most wins in the Constructors' Cup, with 16 trophies.
