United States deploys naval reconnaissance aircraft in Scotland
By Alimat Aliyeva
The US Navy will send naval reconnaissance aircraft to the UK for the first time since the Cold War, amid growing concerns in London and Washington over "Russian activity in the North Atlantic and the Arctic," Azernews reports.
According to reports, Boeing P-8A Poseidon reconnaissance aircraft will be stationed at Lossiemouth Air Base, a British Royal Air Force facility located in the northeast of Scotland. The base recently completed a six-year, $443 million modernization and renovation project.
The Ministry of Defense stated that the deployment of US reconnaissance aircraft in the UK will enhance maritime security and strengthen the defense capabilities of both the UK and NATO.
Under a bilateral agreement signed in October, Boeing P-8A Poseidon aircraft from the German Air Force will also be stationed at the air base in Scotland.
