The United States is committed to deepening its comprehensive strategic partnership with Indonesia, including in the area of security, Azernews reports.
As the head of the U.S. administration noted, this year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Washington and Jakarta. "I am proud that the partnership between our countries is stronger than ever before. Today, we will discuss how to continue strengthening this partnership—primarily by promoting free and open Indo-Pacific regions, with ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) playing a central role," Biden emphasized. According to him, the United States is focused on "deepening the comprehensive strategic partnership, including cooperation in the area of security."
In addition, the U.S. president stated that Indonesia is a "critically important player in the transition to clean energy," in the fight against climate change, and in "building secure and sustainable supply chains."
In turn, Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto called the United States a "great friend" of Indonesia. "The United States supported us in our struggle for independence and has helped us many times in difficult moments. Therefore, I will work hard to strengthen relations between Indonesia and the United States," said Subianto, who took office as Indonesia's defense minister on October 20.
