Portable bridge for tourists installed at Trevi Fountain in Rome
By Alimat Aliyeva
A portable bridge has been installed in the Trevi Fountain, one of Rome's most iconic landmarks, to allow tourists to view the statues up close, Azernews reports.
As part of the Holy Jubilee Year celebrations, which will begin in Rome this December, the fountain is currently undergoing repairs and restoration. The Municipality of Rome took this step to accommodate tourists who came with the expectation of seeing the fountain in its usual form but were disappointed to find it under renovation. Due to the ongoing work, the water has been drained from the fountain’s pool. However, thanks to the newly installed portable bridge, visitors now have the opportunity to view the famous sculptures up close.
The restoration work is expected to be completed by the New Year holidays.
It is worth noting that the last major restoration of the Trevi Fountain took place in 2014 and lasted for over a year and a half. The historic fountain remains one of Rome’s top attractions, drawing millions of visitors every year.
The Trevi Fountain, completed in 1762, is not only a symbol of Rome but also one of the most photographed landmarks in the world. Over the centuries, the fountain has become synonymous with the tradition of throwing a coin over one's shoulder to ensure a return to Rome—a ritual popularized by films such as La Dolce Vita (1960). With its ongoing restoration, the Trevi Fountain will remain a lasting symbol of Italy’s rich cultural heritage.
