Volkswagen recall more than 114 thousand cars in the USA

By Alimat Aliyeva

Volkswagen has announced a recall of 114,500 cars from the American market due to issues with airbags, Azernews reports.

The recall affects 2006-2019 Beetle and Passat models. The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported that the problem stems from a malfunction in the front airbag on the driver's side, which could deploy unexpectedly under high temperatures, posing a potential safety risk.

The issue has raised concerns about the long-term reliability of airbag systems in certain Volkswagen models, especially given the large number of vehicles involved. According to Reuters, affected car owners are urged to contact Volkswagen dealerships for a free replacement of the defective airbag components.

This recall highlights the ongoing challenges car manufacturers face in ensuring the safety and reliability of their vehicles, particularly with complex systems like airbags. While the recall is a necessary step in maintaining consumer safety, it also raises questions about the effectiveness of quality control measures during production and testing. It is also a reminder that recalls, while inconvenient for car owners, are an important mechanism for addressing potential safety hazards in vehicles already on the road.
