Macron's preplanned speech in Notre Dame infuriates masses in France
The French are outraged by President Emmanuel Macron's decision to speak inside Notre Dame Cathedral in honor of its opening.
As reported by Azernews, citing the RIA Novosti, the French president is set to deliver a speech on December 7 to celebrate the cathedral's reopening after restoration. The speech will be delivered inside the building because "it would be difficult to gather an audience" outside. French society has launched memes on social media featuring Macron in a Catholic cassock, and citizens have called his upcoming speech scandalous.
In addition, the French note that the organization of political meetings in places of religious worship is prohibited by the country's legislation.
The grandson of the famous General Charles de Gaulle, Pierre, stated that even the French kings did not dare to encroach on the cathedral, “except for a man who does not believe in God, nor in France, nor in his people.”
On October 24, French politician and head of the Patriots party Florian Philippot said that the French authorities want to make entry to Notre Dame Cathedral a paid service because most of the money goes to support Ukraine.
Notre-Dame de Paris caught fire on April 15, 2019. As a result of the accident, the roof of the cathedral was completely destroyed, and the fire caused it to collapse, along with the famous spire and clock. Reconstruction of the cathedral began in 2022 after two years of preparatory work.
In November 2023, it was reported that restorers had installed a spire identical to the one that burned down in the fire at Notre Dame Cathedral. The wooden structure is 96 m high. The cathedral is scheduled to reopen to visitors on December 8, 2024.
Earlier, France saw interference in the elections in Macron’s address to Moldovans.
