Tohoku Electric shuts down Onagawa Nuclear Power Unit
In Japan, the operator Tohoku Electric Power has decided to shut down the second power unit of the Onagawa Nuclear Power Plant in Miyagi Prefecture, which had been restarted on October 29, Azernews reports citing foreign media.
The plant aimed to begin electricity production on November 3, the process was halted due to equipment issues. As a result, the power unit will remain closed for further inspection.
The second Onagawa reactor, like the units at the Fukushima-1 Nuclear Power Plant, is of the boiling water type. This marks the first time a reactor of this type has been restarted in Japan since the 2011 disaster.
