Erdogan offers to meet Armenian leader
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has offered to meet with Armenian President Serzh Sarkisian in Washington, Novosti Armenii news agency reported, quoting Sarkisian’s press-service.
The proposal was reportedly announced by Erdogan’s special envoy, Turkish Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Feridun Sinirlioglu, who arrived in Yerevan on Wednesday.
Turkish Hurriyet newspaper reported that in a letter submitted by Sinirlioglu to Sarkisian, the Turkish premier noted that Ankara remains committed to the accords on normalizing its strained relations with Yerevan signed in 2009 and is ready to advance the reconciliation process.
Erdogan, who is visiting Paris, has told reporters that Sinirlioglu will discuss in Yerevan both organizing his meeting with the Armenian leader and the future of the two reconciliation protocols signed in Zurich in October 2009. Erdogan added that whether or not the meeting will take place on the sidelines of a summit on nuclear security due in Washington April 12-13 depends on Sarkisian’s reply to the letter.*
