Iran increases cement exports to Afghanistan
By Abdul Kerimkhanov
Exports of Iranian cement to Afghanistan increased after the resumption of U.S. sanctions against Iran, Afghan media reported.
Janaga Navid, a representative of the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce & Industries, said that most of the cement imported to the country comes from Iran, Pakistan and Tajikistan.
He informed that Afghanistan imports 80,000 tons of cement per year and noted that domestic cement production in the country may increase to 420,000 tons per year.
Navid specified that imports of cement from Pakistan have declined, while imports from Iran have increased due to the depreciation of the Iranian rial against foreign currencies.
Meanwhile, he noted that Iran produces better quality cement than Pakistan, so the Afghan importers prefer Iranian products rather than Pakistani.
