Rouhani: Iran's religious leader not against FATF

By Trend

Iran's religious leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, has repeatedly said that he is not against the approval of FATF's projects, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said in his speech at the 58th session of the Central Bank, Trend reports referring to Islamic Republic of Iran News Network (IRINN) television channel.

According to Rouhani, the government has submitted the projects to the parliament on the grounds of Iran’s Supreme Leader not being against these projects.

Rouhani added that, although the parliament has approved these projects, they have not been completely approved yet.

The Iranian president said that the fact of these projects still not being approved leads to many problems in Iran's banking system.

FATF (Financial Action Task Force), an intergovernmental organization that enforces international standards for combating money and property laundering, financing terrorism and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, has given Iran 4 months for the approval of 4 projects.

Although the Iranian parliament approved the 4 projects of the FATF and forwarded them to the Guardian Council of Iran, the Guardian Council did not approve the projects. The 4 projects were yet again approved by parliament and forwarded to the Expediency Discernment Council of the System, which approved 2 of the projects.

Thus, the remaining 2 projects – namely, Palermo and CFT – are still being reviewed by the council.
