Uzbekistan will conduct population census in 2022

Uzbekistan in 2022 will conduct a census of the population, according to a presidential decree.

The document approved the concept of conducting a census in Uzbekistan in 2022.

The need to hold this event is justified by the fact that over the independence years, the population census has not been conducted in Uzbekistan.

Note that the last time the population census was held in 1989.

The document notes that the changes have radically affected the population size, gender and age structure, features of settlement in Uzbekistan and other socio-demographic characteristics. They significantly limit the use of existing data from the current population registration.

At the same time, the decree emphasizes that reliable information about the Uzbek population and its welfare is the most important basis for the long-term forecasts development and the state's target programs for socio-economic development, programs for creating new jobs and providing employment for the population.

The census will provide an accurate count of the population, individual registration and its detailed description by sex, age, marital status, level of education, life, employment, nationality, citizenship and other demographic and socio-economic characteristics.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev created a Republican commission to assist in conducting a census in 2022.

The Commission will coordinate the interaction between the authorized census body and other state and economic management bodies, local executive authorities, monitor the preparation and conduct of the census, organize the attraction of forces for a census, process materials and publish its results. .

The president ordered to draft a law on the population census before July 1. The document will establish the procedure, period and dates for the census.

According to the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan, the number of the resident population of Uzbekistan as of October 1, 2018, was about 33 million people, having increased from the beginning of the year by 428.500, or 1.3 percent. Urban population was 16.7 million people (50.6 percent), rural - 16,4 million (49.4 percent).

The number of arrivals in January-September 2018 was 121.700 people (internal - 119.800, external - 1961 people, including 31 percent from Kazakhstan, 28.3 percent from Tajikistan, and 25.3 percent from Russia) ,

The number of retired - 134,000 (internal - 119.800, external - 14.200, including 48.1 percent - in Kazakhstan, 46 percent - in Russia, 1.3 percent - in the U.S.).

The balance of migration was minus 12.300 people against 14.900 in the same period of 2017. The high level of migration balance falls in Tashkent (minus 4.100 people), Kashkadarya (minus 2.100) regions and Karakalpakstan (minus 3.100).

The population density of the republic on October 1 was 73.7 people per 1 square km, the highest density - in Tashkent (7478.8 people), the lowest - in the Navoi region (8.7).
