The Industrial Development & Renovation Organization of Iran (IDRO Group) and China’s ZSM signed an agreement whereby the Chinese firm will set up a water treatment facility in Iran’s western province of Ilam.

The deal was signed on Thursday during a ceremony in Tehran attended by Iranian Minister of Industry, Mines and Business Mohammad Shariatmadari, IRIB news agency reported on October 18.

The terms of the contract cover the transfer of scientific and technical know-how for ZSM’s desalination machines.

The desalinated water will be used later in the country’s petrochemical and steel industries.

The Chinese firm will also provide Iran with all the necessary equipment, the report said.

Water shortage has been a chronic problem in Iran and experts believe that acquiring the know-how will help the country cope with this challenge in a better way.
