Turkey says envoy may return to U.S. this week
By Trend
Turkish Ambassador Serdar Kilic may return to the US this week, Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said, Turkish media reported on May 30.
He noted that Turkey did not recall its ambassador from the United States, but only summoned him for consultations.
On May 14, Turkey summoned its ambassadors in Washington and Tel Aviv for consultations because of Israel's actions in the Gaza Strip, which resulted in death of more than 150 Palestinians.
Later, Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim announced that Turkey is calling on Muslim countries to reconsider relations with Israel.
Yildirim noted that Turkey sharply condemns Israel's actions against Palestinians.
Turkish Foreign Ministry also urged the Ambassador and Consul General of Israel to leave Turkey, after which the Israeli diplomats left Turkey.
On May 18, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held an emergency meeting on the situation in Palestine.
