Yildirim: Armenia claims Turkish lands

By Rashid Shirinov

Armenia claims Turkish lands, while Turkey is not at war with any country, Turkish media quoted the Prime Minister Binali Yildirim as saying on May 11.

“Armenia is still hostile to Turkey,” he said. “If Armenia stops making any claims against Turkey and sincerely wants to open a new page in relations with Turkey, Ankara may consider these proposals.”

Previously, the new Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan said that Armenia is ready to establish relations with Turkey without preconditions.

Earlier, Armenia announced the cancellation of the protocols on the normalization of the Armenian-Turkish relations. The protocols were signed by the foreign ministers of Turkey and Armenia on October 10, 2009, but they were never ratified.

Armenia and the Armenian lobby claim that Turkey’s predecessor, the Ottoman Empire allegedly carried out “genocide” against the Armenians living in Anatolia in 1915. By strengthening the efforts to promote the so-called “genocide” in the world, Armenians have achieved its recognition by the parliaments of some countries.

However, when Turkey proposed Armenia to create a joint historical commission of historians and experts from both sides and third parties in order to study the events of 1915 and share the findings with the international public, Armenia refused the offer.
