Turkmenistan is completing construction of a new international sea port in Turkmenbashi city designed to provide a higher level of trade and economic cooperation among the countries of Asia and Europe, according to the appeal of the Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on the occasion of the professional holiday of communication and transport employees celebrated in Turkmenistan on March 7.
The sea port will open wide opportunities for Turkmenistan’s entering the global markets and will promote the effective use of new geo-economic potential, the appeal said.
Earlier it was reported that the solemn opening ceremony of the new international sea port will take place in the first decade of May 2018 in Turkmenbashi city.
The port’s complex will include a general loading terminal, a bulk cargo terminal, as well as a shipbuilding and a ship repair yard. The total area of the multifunctional port will exceed 1.4 million square meters.
The project with an estimated value of $1.5 billion is being implemented by Turkey’s Gap Insaat company. Annual capacity of the port will be 17-18 million tons.
