Europe`s most expensive hotel opens in Antalya

Europe`s most expensive hotel, built by Azerbaijani
businessman Telman Ismailov, celebrated its opening in Turkey`s
resort city of Antalya on Saturday.
The opening ceremony of the Mardan Palace was attended by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who was accompanied by Tourism and Culture Minister Ertugrul Gunay, Turkey`s Huriyyet newspaper reported.
Hollywood superstars Mariah Carey, Monica Bellucci, Sharon Stone, Tom Jones, and Richard Gere had been among those invited to the event.
Construction of the spectacular hotel, financed by Ismailov, the president of the Russian group of companies, AST, cost $1.4 billion. The facility includes European rooms and the Anatolian wing. Among the luxuries offered are huge TVs, grand pianos and private pools, which have glorious views over the Taurus Mountains, and ten high-end restaurants serving food cooked by chefs from the country of the cuisine`s origin.
Jumkhur Uzen, the Mardan Palace General Manager, has told the local media that this was AST Group`s most pivotal investment in Turkey`s tourism sector. The hotel was built in the historical architectural style of Istanbul. The 180,000 square meter area of the facility is continuously provided with security.
According to Uzen, prices for suites at the hotel, which has a giant swimming pool encompassing 16,000 sq. m., have price tags from 485 to 16,000 euros during the summer season. Spending a night in one of the two luxury suites costs as much as $18,000, Huriyyet said.
Despite the luxury and grandeur of the hotel, some are already predicting low demand for it. Nonetheless, the Mardan Palace`s website says it is fully booked till the end of the month.
Telman Ismailov has plans spanning farther than Antalya. The entrepreneur intends to do business in other cities of Turkey, according to the local media. His tourism development plans reportedly include Nabran, a resort located close to Azerbaijan`s northern border.
Forbes magazine estimates that Ismailov`s wealth amounts to $620 million. He does most of his business in Russia and Turkey, with the scope of operations spanning from the hotel business to publishing.
