Turkmenistan completing construction of Caspian port
By Trend
The international sea port in the city of Turkmenbashi is meant to become the biggest logistics center of the Central Asian region, the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reported.
“Currently, the construction of new terminals and other facilities of the main sea harbor of the country are at the final stage,” says the article.
Reportedly, Turkmenistan’s President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov became acquainted with the construction of the port at the shore of the Caspian Sea during his working trip to the Balkan region of the country.
Implementation of the Turkmenbashi sea port’s new project started in 2014.
Terminals for ferries and passengers, a terminal for containers, a common cargo port, a port for bulk cargo, a complex for building and repairing ships, and terminals for trailer transportation and polypropylene are being built as part of the project.
“The project with a budget of $1.5 billion will become the biggest port of the Caspian Sea,” said a message posted on the website of Turkey’s Gap Inşaat company, which is carrying out the project’s implementation.
Annual capacity of the port will be 17-18 million tons.
